Uldis Marhilevičs, Aivars Hermanis, and the LRBB
The Latvian Radio Big Band will join participants of the legendary band Remix, Aivars Hermanis (guitar) and Uldis Marhilevičs (keys), to look back at the instrumental music of the band, U. Marhilevičs and A. Hermanis’ music from the albums Uz veselību and Naktsmājas, released in the 1980s.
The songs were created in the late 1980s, when the Latvian Radio established an ensemble at the initiative of Maestro Raimonds Pauls, uniting the best young instrumentalists at the time, pianist Uldis Marhilevičs, Aivars Hermanis (guitar), Vilnis Krieviņš (drums), and Jevgēņijs Ščapovs (bass) (and Eduards Glotovs since 1989). The ensemble was joined by singer Igo, and Remix became the all-star band we have known and loved for nearly 40 years, while continuing active work at the Latvian Radio recording studio and accompanying artists in the recordings of many composers, as well as working on their own instrumental programs. They created songs like “Cīņa”, “Spēle”, “Pilsēta”, and the legendary “Uz veselību!”, released in the albums Naktsmājas and Uz veselību!. Together with the authors Uldis Marhilevičs and Aivars Hermanis, the Latvian Radio Big Band wish to look back at this seemingly forgotten instrumental part of Remix’s legacy.
The compositions were arranged for this concert by the Big Band’s pianist Viktors Ritovs to enrich the sound of Remix with the band’s timbral shades.
