The Radio SWH Jazz Club and trombonist Marshall Gilkes (USA)
The special guest of the third Radio SWH Jazz Club event will be American trombonist Marshall Gilkes! American trombonist and composer Marshall Gilkes is a Grammy nominee who is widely recognized as a brilliant and ingenious jazz musician. Gilkes has toured and collaborated with performers like Maria Schneider, Edmar Castañeda, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, and many others, proving his skill and versatility every time. Gilkes is a permanent member of the WDR Big Band. In this program, the Jazz Club audience will hear original pieces by Marshall Gilkes as well as beloved and popular jazz tunes. Starting from March 2024, Radio SWH radio personalities will be hosting monthly jazz nights at the Spīķeri Concert Hall. On these nights, the Concert Hall will turn into a world-class jazz club with a special ambience. Guests will be able to enjoy the concerts in an informal setting with seating at tables with hors d'oeuvres by chef Lauris Aleksejevs (included in the ticket price along with a signature cocktail). The Radio SWH Jazz Club will bring us superstars like Danish violinist Line Kruse, Grammy nominee Cuban vocalist Daymé Arocena, British jazz vocalist Ola Onabule, and other artists. Vinyl DJ Mareks Ameriks will make sure to set the mood, and Jersika Records will have a stand with records available for purchase. A café will be operating during the concerts for ordering additional drinks.Participants
