Sinfonietta Rīga. Mozart's “Linz” Symphony and Korngold's Serenade
It is almost impossible to resist the scenic charm and musical passion of Sinfonietta Rīga's artistic partner Jörg Widmann. He consistently captivates the Latvian audience with unforgettable programs, this time balancing between chamber and symphonic ambition in the compositions of two remarkable talents who once lived in Vienna. By the time Erich Wolfgang Kornglod's Serenade was written, the composer, who fled war-torn Austria to California, had already gained fame as a great master of soundtrack music for Hollywood films. Widmann describes the Serenade as a declaration of the composer’s love for his wife, enveloped in shimmering magic. Alongside this piece, Mozart's Symphony, written for Harmoniemusik, or wind ensemble, which gained popularity in the 18th century, is selected. Widmann's clarinet will also be featured in this composition. Performing Mozart's music is a serious challenge, however, it brings great satisfaction; therefore, the program will culminate in Widmann’s beloved Symphony No. 36. Mozart, buoyed by his recent marriage, is said to have completed it in four days.
