Two Osokins. Haydn, Beethoven, Debussy, Ravel

From the parlours of the Romantic era, shrouded in legend, to the impressive concert halls of today, the four-handed sound art of the piano duet has come a long and richly varied way over the centuries. In the Autumn Chamber Music Festival, the subtleties of this composition will be revealed by the outstanding piano virtuosos Sergejs and Andrejs Osokins, who are equally fond of solo playing and the joy of playing together. Although the father and son are both familiar with the thought exchange between a master and a scholar, in the opus Il Maestro e lo Scolare (The Master and The Scholar) by the Austrian classicist Joseph Haydn, the two musicians will face equal challenges. Likewise, Haydn's scholar Ludwig van Beethoven's only two opuses for piano duet will convey his master's optimistic approach to life. The brilliance of Old Europe will sparkle in the Parisian Maurice Ravel's La Valse (The Waltz), clearly reaching for the pinnacle of the two pianists' union. By contrast, the playful naivety of Claude Debussy's music for children will fool anyone – here, it takes a master to decipher each note.
